Drop Traps Are Cool!

So, one of the cats in the gaggle at my Dad's house was injured and I needed a drop trap. "Fonzie" is a wiley ol' tomcat and has been limping around for the past couple weeks in Dad's neighborhood. He had shunned previous attempts at going into traditional humane traps so I decided to see if we could catch him in a drop trap. Problem was, I didn't have one. But our local feral cat group did.

A few months back, San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition got a drop trap from Alley Cat Allies after one of Becky Robinson's visits to town. The trap is constructed very well and worked for me this evening on the first try. Ol' Fonzie will visit our rescue vet in the morning to see what can be done for him. I'll have him combo-tested first and if he's good to go after that, see what the vet says about treating his leg. I hope it isn't broken. I believe his foot may be badly lacerated and possibly infected. Hopefully the vet can treat it just the one time. I don't relish having to bring him in for follow-up visits (meaning I'd either have to re-trap him more than once, or, most likely, keep him caged for the duration of his treatment). If he gets through treatment, we'll snip his clickers and send him back to running the gang (thus the name "Fonzie").

By the way, Fonz is the mate of one of my two inside house feral cats ("Matilda") that I got from my Dad's backyard in May of last year with her four kittens. One kitten was adopted out and I still have two here (now grown) with the mom. Another lady is fostering the third one.
